In multi-channel LIDARs, each channel covers a specific segment of the overall FOV. The total FOV is determined by the combined coverage of all channels, which influences the sensor’s ability to detect objects over a wide area.

Calculating the Angular Resolution

Angular resolution defines the smallest angular difference that the sensor can distinguish between two objects. It depends on the number of channels and the scanning mechanism.

To calculate the angular resolution per channel, divide the total FOV by the number of measurement points or channels. For example, if a sensor has a 120-degree FOV and 120 measurement points, the resolution is 1 degree per point.
